SUMMARY

Ensure that the physical, emotional, educational, social, spiritual and cultural needs of each individual client are met.  

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • This position requires a flexible schedule, including occasional overnights, as needed to work with the House Parent Staff in scheduling their time off.
  • The normal work schedule is anticipated to be approximately twenty four (24) hours per week. 
  • The work schedule can vary by house, based on the needs of the children and House Staff, and is subject to change based on the needs of the agency.
  • Work together with the House Parent staff to help them support the needs of the clients.
  • Must be able to work consecutive overnights as needed.
  • Must be able to commit at a minimum of 4 overnights per month as needed.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrate initiative in carrying out all duties and responsibilities
  • Support the physical, social, emotional, educational, spiritual and cultural growth for all clients and work with the multidisciplinary team to ensure that these needs are being met.
  • Actively participate, as a member of the multidisciplinary team, in formulating and following through with service plans for all children in their care.
  • Attend all team meetings, case conferences and home reviews as scheduled.
  • Provide 24-hour supervision and a structured environment to ensure the safety and well being of each client.
  • Communicate openly and regularly with the team regarding the children and their well being.
  • Implement all behavior plans that are created for the children including the level system.
  • Support the child’s/family participation in mental health services as designated by the multidisciplinary team. Participate in family (house) therapy as indicated.
  • Attend all scheduled medical appointments and follow through with any and all recommendations made by the medical professionals.
  • Administer medications as instructed and in accordance with SOS policy
  • Monitor school attendance and assess performance to ensure academic success for all children.
  • Attend and participate in all school activities and meetings as recommended by the multidisciplinary team.
  • Ensure the child’s participation in tutoring and special academic programs, as designated by the multidisciplinary team.
  • Assist all children with homework and/or school projects.
  • Advocate for children’s needs within the school system.
  • Maintain and model proper upkeep, routine maintenance and cleanliness of the home and its furnishings, submitting work order for damages/or repairs in a timely manner.
  • Ensure proper care and safe handling of all agency vehicles, following through with all maintenance as recommended by the Facilities Manager.
  • Ensure that all seat belts are fastened and that all persons are secure in agency vehicle before driving.
  • Balance and maintain a home budget, while staying within budgetary constraints.
  • Monitor house security/alarm system
  • Serve as a role model for the clients and their families.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with ChildNet and other service providers, community agencies and governmental entities that are associated with the care and treatment of SOS clients.
  • Respond to crises in a manner that serves to promote physical and emotional safety and well-being.
  • Assist, substitute for, or help other staff when called upon to insure safety and continuity of coverage and care or treatment of SOS clients.
  • Interact with clients, all agency staff and other individuals in a caring and professional manner.
  • Exhibit behavior which conforms to the highest standard of ethics and professionalism.
  • Attend required in-service training and other staff/program meetings as scheduled.
  • Prepare and/or coordinate all required documentation and reports in an accurate, thorough, and timely manner.
  • Maintain a complete and accurate understanding of all procedures relevant to the care and treatment of SOS clients.
  • Be aware of, and implement all local and state requirements for the care and handling of clients, including the reporting of suspected abuse and/or neglect.
  • Report all issues, concerns, problems, or situations that may adversely affect the welfare and safety of the clients, staff, or program to the Residential Managers or Program Director.
  • Perform other duties/tasks that may be assigned.

TRAINING

  • Attend a minimum of 40 hours of training each year. Supervisor may recommend additional training to improve skills in employee’s particular field.
  • Maintain current certification in Professional Crisis Management and CPR/First Aid.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM THIS JOB

  • Must be able to work under tight schedules and possess the ability to handle pressure associated with deadlines. Must be able to handle multiple tasks.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with Board, Staff and Volunteers. Must be a team player.
  • Must be willing to view challenges and change as opportunities for learning.
  • Must possess verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must comply with all agency standards, i.e., conduct, policies and procedures.
  • Must be willing to carry out the mission and vision of SOS Children's Village of Florida, support the growth of the Agency, and carry out the goals of the Strategic Plan.
  • Must possess sensitivity to the cultural differences that are present among the organization’s service population.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and at least Employee will also need two years experience working with children and families.

REASONING ABILITY

Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Will need the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Previous child care experience, valid Florida Driver's license, comply with all state, federal, county and city regulations, positive background check, negative drug screen.
