Director of Volunteers

The Opportunity:

Volunteers have the potential to dramatically impact the lives of children who live at SOS Children’s Village. The Director of Volunteers provides the connection between SOS and people in the community who have a passion to help children, either as one-on-one mentors or through group volunteer activities.

The Director of Volunteers has the following major responsibilities:

Develop and maintain a strong volunteer base that helps to nurture the children and support the events and activities of SOS

Recruit volunteers through multiple sources, such as current volunteers and community partners.

Screen and train volunteers, providing ongoing support and encouragement

Evaluate volunteer performance

Develop and maintain an annual calendar of activities for which volunteers are needed. Communicate about volunteer opportunities.

Maintain a volunteer database and ensure its accuracy

Develop and maintain records of volunteer hours. Compile and report statistics related to volunteer activity.

Plan and implement volunteer recognition events and activities

Continuously analyze volunteer programs and make changes as appropriate.


Skills and Experience:

Bachelor's degree

Strong ability to manage both people and processes; aligning individual volunteer needs with those of the organization

Skilled at monitoring and motivating volunteers to consistently fulfill their commitments and be effective in their roles.

2-5 years’ experience in volunteer management

Ability to work flexible hours, including some weekends and evenings

Strong written, interpersonal and oral presentation skills

Ability to work with tight timelines and changing priorities

Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships with staff,   board members and community partners
